This Fall Tree Photographic Print was made using an alternative photographic printing process known as Gumoil with an end result that is in essence a photographic oil painting.
By combining Gum Arabic with Potassium Bichromate a light sensitive gum solution is created and painted onto cotton paper. Upon exposure to UV light using my custom light box the unexposed gum is washed away in a water bath. When the oil paint is applied these areas become the shadows and the hardened gum acts as a resist in the highlights of the image. After wiping away the excess oil paint the final image is revealed.
